What is the VistaPure™ Ultra Pure Water System?
VistaPure™ provides a convenient and inexpensive supply of high purity, distilled-quality water for labs, dental and medical offices. The system requires no electricity and prepares ultra pure water through a specialized filtration process. Two grades of water are produced by the system – distilled-quality water for autoclaves and ultra filtered non-corrosive water for use in bottles used with dental delivery systems.

What’s the difference between a VistaPure™ and VistaPure™ MAX?
Both systems are Model V3000 but the original VistaPure™ has a Polishing filter (R2551) instead of a Postfilter (R5633) in the lowest position (#5) on the system board. The change was made to increase the life of the Deionization filters in bad water areas. All systems with a manufacturing date on or after October 20, 2008, are the newest design. A conversion kit is available to upgrade to the MAX version.

Why do I need a VistaPure™ for my autoclave?
Autoclaves and steam sterilizers super heat water to create steam for the sterilization process. The water used must be of the highest quality with virtually no TDS (total dissolved solids). Generally speaking, water should have a content of less than 005 ppm TDS so that the inside of the autoclave stays as clean as possible. If there are contaminants in the water, they will drop out of solution when the water is turned to steam that will create maintenance issues and could possibly interfere with the sterilization process. VistaPure™ provides a perfect quality of water for autoclaves and includes two TDS meters for monitoring water quality.

I use store bought bottles of distilled water, why do I need a VistaPure™?
Distilled water purchased in a store is normally just fine for autoclaves. However, all sources of water should be checked with a TDS meter to make certain the water quality good enough for the process. It is not uncommon to have a bottle of distilled water bought from a store to be above the 005 ppm limit for distilled-quality water. Some autoclaves have a sensor that monitors TDS quality and will send and error code and not work if the water quality is not correct. VistaPure™ water from the autoclave wand provides a much more convenient solution than purchasing, carrying and storing bottles of water from a store. The same goes for bottled water delivery services. And, a VistaPure™ approach to water in the dental office is much more environmentally friendly since there are no bottles to send to a landfill.

How big is the storage tank? Will is last me an entire work day?
Each VistaPure™ includes a pressurized tank that stores the treated water. Under normal water pressure conditions, it will hold from 2.0 – 2.7 gallons of treated water that will be delivered to the autoclave wand or bottle faucet instantly. As soon as water is taken from the tank a hydraulic control valve immediately commands the system to start making more treated water. In normal sized offices with paced usage of water, the standard tank is sufficient since the system can make about 25 gallons of water in a 12 hour period. For large offices, hygiene and dental schools that fill many bottles at a time, one VistaPure™ is sufficient but an additional tank(s) can be added to supply additional “on demand” water.

How many times can we use a Statim in one day making sure the system will keep up making water for it?
The standard VistaPure™ tank is more than sufficient for keeping up with individual autoclaves of any brand and type. If there are multiple autoclaves and bottles being filled, there will be a greater demand for water and an additional tank may need to be added unless the demand for water is spread over the work day more evenly.
Does the water that sits in the storage tank ever go bad or spoil?
The water can easily stay in the sealed pressure tank without “spoiling.” However, water should never sit for long periods of time without being turned over. Simply change the filters when prescribed and perform the annual tank maintenance as described in the owner’s manual and the water quality should be fine.
Do I ever need to empty the tank?
The tank should be emptied at least once each year to check the air pre-charge pressure and be sanitized. There are specific directions for performing this maintenance on our website including step-by-step videos.

Where can a VistaPure™ be installed?
VistaPure™ systems are normally installed on the right side of the base cabinet in the sterilization center. Systems can also be installed in other locations as long as there is a source for the cold water for the inlet and a drain for the waste.
Does it need to be installed near my autoclave?
It is usually more convenient for the system to be installed near a sink and the autoclave tower. However, a 12’ length of tubing is supplied to run to the area of the autoclaves as well as a 10’ coiled tubing for the wand. In the case of a galley style sterilization center, longer lengths of tubing can be used. Contact your dental dealer or the factory.

What maintenance is involved with a VistaPure™?
Maintenance for the VistaPure™ is simple. The water quality should be checked with the provided TDS meters about once per month which takes only minutes. The Pre / Post filters should be changed at least once per year and the Deionization and Hyperfiltration filters as needed by test. Consult the owner’s manual or online videos for complete details.
How long do the filters last?
The Pre and Post filters should be changed at least annually. The Deionization filters can last on average from four months to three years depending on the volume of usage and the quality of the local water supply. The Hyperfiltration filter can last from three to five years depending on the volume of usage, the quality and pressure of the local water supply. Checking the water quality with the provided TDS meters will help you keep ahead of any required filter changes. Simply record the information on copies of the filter maintenance record provided in the owner’s manual.

Can I use a VistaPure™ for something other than filling my autoclaves?
Yes. Every VistaPure™ makes two grades of water. Water can be used to fill dental bottles. Or, if the office also has a VistaClear™ system and has no need to use bottles, the chrome faucet can be used in the kitchenette or staff lounge for drinking water and beverages.
Does the VistaPure™ require any chemicals?
No. All treatment is done by the encapsulated filters.

What is the difference between the water that comes out of the faucet and the water that comes out of the wand?
Water that comes from the wand is used to fill autoclaves with distilled-quality water. It is prepared by passing through both the Hyperfiltration filter and the Deionization filters. Water that comes from the chrome faucet is used for filling dental bottles or using for drinking and beverages, etc. It is prepared by passing through the Hyperfiltration and Postfilter and has a slightly higher TDS level than that used for autoclaves.
Can I drink the water that is made by the VistaPure™?
Absolutely. Water from the chrome bottle faucet is great for drinking water and beverages.
Do I need to shut the VistaPure™ off at night or at the end of the day?
It is always a good idea to turn off the water feed to dental offices at night to prevent water damage should any water lines leak due to high city water pressure, etc. If the office has a water solenoid shut-down system, simply get the supply water for the VistaPure™ from a line controlled by the solenoid. Otherwise, the system can be turned off by simply closing the inlet feed valve or installing an air operated valve ahead of the main water feed.
When purchasing a VistaPure™, are there special installation requirements and how should we include it in office design?
The only requirements for installing a VistaPure™ are a 1/4" O.D. connection from the cold water to supply water to the unit and a 1/4" O.D. connection for the drain. Most offices design the VistaPure™ into the base cabinet of the sterilization center with wand line running to the autoclave tower and another line running to the bottle faucet. No electricity is required for this system. However, always make certain there is at least 40 psi water pressure available from the main cold water supply for operating the system.
Can we as dentists and office managers change the filters or does it take service technician?
Changing the filters is quite easy but one should have a good working knowledge of working with pressurized water lines, valves, etc. Most dental offices simply have a trained service technician replace filters.
Is there any maintenance required for the water storage tank?
Yes. At least once per year the tank should be emptied, sanitized and the air pre-charge should be checked. The air pre-charge should be kept between 7.5 and 8.5 psi for proper water flow to the wand and faucet. Please see the owner’s manual and videos for instructions on this simple but very important maintenance step.
Is this system going to save our office money?
There is certainly a huge savings in staff time and convenience. There are no trips to the store for water or expensive water delivery services. The capital investment can be quickly recovered in these cost savings. Most dental offices find they can’t imagine going back to lugging, storing and pouring water from heavy jugs into autoclaves and dental bottles.
Why is it necessary to test the water with the handheld TDS meter?
The handheld TDS meter is provided for testing the source (city) water. The onboard dual TDS meter tests the water at two points within the system.
When using the onboard TDS meter, what is meant by the “IN” and “OUT?”
The “IN” position on the meter measures the water quality AFTER the Hyperfiltration filter and BEFORE the Deionization filters. The IN number represents the quality of the water sent to the bottle faucet while the OUT number represents the quality of the water sent to the autoclave faucet.
Do I have to replace batteries in the TDS meters?
Yes, eventually the batteries will wear out and have to be changed. The batteries used are common button cells available at most any store. Use 357A (LR44) alkaline button bell batteries – 1.5V 110mAh.
